Element Products brings Sophisticated, Affordable Robotics to the Education and Toy Markets with the Scribbler Programmable Robot
Broomfield, CO - October 10, 2005 - Element Products Inc. introduces the Scribbler Programmable Robot. The Scribbler is an interactive robotic toy and teaching tool built to engage young users for hours. Scooting across the floor while playing songs and flashing lights, the Scribbler reacts in real time to its nine integrated sensors, and can easily be programmed by even the youngest users through a unique and innovative programming interface. At an MSRP of $99, the Scribbler's price is half that of its closest competitor and makes robotics affordable for everyone.
Tiered Programming Capabilities for All Ages and Levels
The Scribbler is one of the first robot products to cater to all ages and skill levels, with an emphasis on easy, intuitive, yet sophisticated programming capabilities. Its programming interface is "tiered" to allow users of different ages and levels to all learn on the same robot.
Novices can easily program the Scribbler using a Windows(R)-based graphical program editor, and can build their programs block by block to create complex robot behaviors. For more advanced users, direct programming in the BASIC language provides the complete control needed for robotics competitions and high-level robotics experiments.
In both programming modes, the Scribbler offers a rich palette of behaviors. The robot can be programmed to compose music and flash lights in response to what it sees and senses; it can track moving lights, follow lines on the ground, avoid walls and obstacles without touching them, free itself if it gets stuck, and even autonomously draw pictures with paper and pen. In concert with the Tiered Programming Interface, these capabilities provide almost endless possibilities for a robotics enthusiast progressing from novice to pro.
A Focus on Education
Educators will find that the tiered programming interface makes the Scribbler a valuable teaching tool, from elementary school to undergraduate robotics courses. The affordable price puts robots in to the hands of more students; even home-schoolers will be able to bring technology into their curriculum.
Element Products partnered with Parallax, Inc. to develop the Scribbler, drawing on Parallax's deep ties to the technology education community and proven customer support. The Scribbler is supported by an extensive website, www.scribblerrobot.com, providing free programming guides, curriculum ideas, a users' forum, and the latest software updates.
The Scribbler can be purchased for $99 through Parallax at www.scribblerrobot.com, and is designed for users of ages 8 and older. Parties interested in becoming a Scribbler distributor should contact Aristides Alvarez at 916-624-8333 or aalvarez@parallax.com.
